Things are starting to get pretty busy around here. We seem to be a week behind on most things, including posting these photos, they were taken May 28th.
This post is from 5/13/10 It has been a really amazing year for our roses so far. We have been picking baskets and baskets of them most mornings. It has been a crazy spring weather wise. One day 80 some degrees and the next it's cold and raining. The wind has been a force to be reckoned with as well. The garden hasn't seemed to mind, everything is growing beautifully. The late rains did contribute to the dahlias getting in the ground much later than we would have liked, but we expect them to be blooming soon. This has been one weird week! It's hot, it's cold, it's wet, it's dry. You never know what you are going to get from one minute to the next. The garden hasn't seemed to mind. The roses are amazing, everything is green and lush. It's making for some really lovely floral arrangements, if we don't say so ourselves.
As you can see many of the roses are in bud. Hopefully they will be in full bloom for the open house. That first big bloom is one of the most magical times in the garden. We encourage everyone to bring cameras and easels out to capture the moment. We'll keep you posted.
The garden has been very busy this week. Almost everything has leafed out. There are a couple of rose bushes blooming. The lilacs were blooming for Easter arrangements. The Snow Ball viburnum has beautiful green buds. It has been a weird day, it rained all morning, now at 5:00pm the sun is coming out. In just a week we have gone from some of the fruit trees in bloom to some of them being completely leafed out. In the 3rd photo in the top row, you'll notice a fresh row of seedings. The far side of the willow circle is leafing out. The garden changes so quickly here at Dragonfly Farm. Every day it is dramatically different, especially at this time of year. We've never been very good about keeping a garden journal. We tend to remember what's blooming by holidays, birthdays and celebrations, but that changes year to year. So we've decided that once a week we are going to stand in the same places in the garden and take pictures. If we can keep this up, it'll be interesting to see how it changes year to year. We'll start with a spot in the middle of the front, along Westside Road. One in the middle by the duck pond and on towards the back just past the center section of roses. Hopefully these will give us a good overall perspective of the garden. Dragonfly Farm - Front 3/11/10 Dragonfly Farm - Middle Dragonfly Farm - Towards the Back What's in the garden this week:
