The garden has been very busy this week.  Almost everything has leafed out.  There are a couple of rose bushes blooming.  The lilacs were blooming for Easter arrangements.  The Snow Ball viburnum has beautiful green buds.  It has been a weird day, it rained all morning, now at 5:00pm the sun is coming out.

In just a week we have gone from some of the fruit trees in bloom to some of them being completely leafed out.  In the 3rd photo in the top row, you'll notice a fresh row of seedings.

The garden changes so quickly here at Dragonfly Farm.  Every day it is dramatically different, especially at this time of year.  We've never been very good about keeping a garden journal.  We tend to remember what's blooming by holidays, birthdays and celebrations, but that changes year to year.  So we've decided that once a week we are going to stand in the same places in the garden and take pictures.  If we can keep this up, it'll be interesting to see how it changes year to year.


We'll start with a spot in the middle of the front, along Westside Road.  One in the middle by the duck pond and on towards the back just past the center section of roses.  Hopefully these will give us a good overall perspective of the garden.

This is an exciting time of year for us at Dragonfly FAr.  We hope for as much rain as possible and then worry that everything is going to drown.  We'd still rather have the rain.  We are starting to see the transition from sticks and mud to the first big bloom.

During the winter Bonnie spends most of her time in meetings planning weddings and events for the coming season.  In her free time she's working on seed orders and planning the garden.  She spends every free minute she gets in the greenhouse starting seeds and watching them grow.  She's really excited about some of the new varieties of flowers that we'll be growing this year.

Many of these are our residents enjoying the puddle that the farm becomes after a big rain.  After those few hot days we don't have any more standing water.  We have also noticed more birds this year than ever before.  The trees are full of robins and many others that we have yet to identify.  We've been graced by some enormous and graceful egrets and blue herons.  Ray hopes that we'll get some more rain so he can get a picture of them.  They like to stand out in the flooded fields and feed.  If you are thinking about coming out to the farm you will still need your rain boots.
